Garbage Collection

Day and Time: View the Collection Calendar or contact the City of Kingston for garbage collection information. Garbage must be placed curbside by 6:00am to ensure pickup.

Restrictions: Place garbage in consistent bags or containers. The maximum allowable weight for these items is 20 kilograms or 44 pounds. Please note that bags or containers that exceed this weight will not be collected.

A two-bag limit is in effect for the City of Kingston.  To dispose of extra bags, you must mark them with special tags that can be purchased for $2.00 at the following locations:

  • City Hall
  • Counter Street Municipal Office
  • Kingston Area Recycling Centre
  • Bennett's Valu-Mart
  • Cataraqui Town Centre (Customer Care Booth)
  • Kingston Mills Esso Station

All residents are responsible for holding personal garbage until collection day.  For more information regarding garbage collection please call The City of Kingston's Customer Service at 546-0000.
 

Recycling/Composting

The City of Kingston has expanded the blue and gray box program to include downtown residents. For more information on allowable contents and a calendar of pick up dates please visit: www.cityofkingston.ca

Where to Find a Blue/Gray/Green Box

You may pick up any of these boxes at City Hall (216 Ontario Street) or the Kingston Area Recycling Centre (196 Lappan's Lane). The first box will be of no cost and any additional blue boxes will cost $6.00 each.  Personal identification indicating your home address will be requested.

Labeling Your Blue/Gray/Green Box

We recommend that you clearly label your recycling/composting box with your municipal address and/or unit number for easy identification.

Pick-up Times

Recyclables are picked up from curbside weekly.  Following a Statutory Holiday, your recycling collection will move forward by one day. Please ensure your blue box is at curbside no later than 6:00am.

To activate Television or Internet services, please contact Cogeco Cable at 1-800-267-9000,  613-544-6314.  Requests for high-speed internet access from Cogeco may require a letter of consent from Braebury Properties to approve the drilling of additional outlets.

WTC Communications and Kingston Online Service are also Internet options available.

Emergency Service

The following are considered emergencies:

  1. Smoke, fire, or fire alarm activation.
  2. No, heat, electricity or water supply.
  3. Significant leak or flooding.
